Oklahoma drivers billed for Texas toll roads

Since 2010, toll roads in north Texas have been controlled electronically.

This means no coin collectors or toll booth workers. So drivers from other states that don’t have a TollTag (the Texas PikePass) had no way to pay.

Earlier this year, the North Texas Tollway Authority obtained the addresses of Oklahoma drivers whose tags were photographed on NTTA roadways. Many of those drivers have now been billed for their use of the toll road.

NTTA said they have gone back as far as 2012 and sent bills to drivers. Close to $2 million has been collected from Oklahoma drivers who’ve paid that bill.

NTTA officials told KRMG the best way to avoid that bill is to use a TollTag. A better option for Oklahomans, though, is to just use a PikePass.

The Oklahoma PikePass is recognized on north Texas toll roads.
