Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announces changes to his cabinet

Governor Kevin Stitt FILE - Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt speaks on April 12, 2022, in Oklahoma City. Stitt is asking a state judge to expunge a portion of a state grand jury report that is sharply critical of Stitt. The motion filed Wednesday, May 25, 2022, says the report that calls Stitt's meetings with appointees to the state Pardon and Parole Board “grossly improper” is not allowed under a state law that limits grand juries to issuing only indictments. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is making changes to his cabinet.

In a news release sent out Tuesday morning, Stitt said he is eliminating the Secretary of Science and Innovation, adding a new role called the Secretary of Operations and Government Efficiency, and appointing a new Secretary of Workforce Development.

State Chief Operating Officer, John Suter, is taking on the newly-created role of Secretary of Operations and Government Efficiency.

“As governor, I believe in less taxes and smaller government. Creating a Secretary of Operations and Government Efficiency is a targeted effort to ensure my administration stays focused on shrinking the size of government and providing the most efficient services for the taxpayer,” Stitt said in the news release.

“Within just weeks of my executive order on reducing the state vehicle fleet, we have saved taxpayers an estimated $2.8 million annually. I know there are more ways to save taxpayer money throughout state government and I look forward to taking additional action with this new cabinet position.”

Stitt says he will appoint the new Secretary of Workforce Development after he receives a recommendation from the Governor’s Workforce Transformation Task Force.
