TULSA, Okla. — It’s almost the start of a new school year, which also means football season. As stadiums will be packed on Friday nights later this month, there’s new rules surrounding sportsmanship for coaches, players, and fans.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) is using this new rule to keep the sport environment controlled and appropriate. The new rule will prevent fights, verbal arguments, and unruly comments.
According to the OSSAA, some examples may include, fans entering the playing surface to engage in acts like fighting or confronting game officials, a player or coach getting two or more technical fouls resulting in ejection, or any other ejection of a player or coach by a referee would not be categorized as “egregious” since the penalty is covered by the playing rules of the game.
OSSAA said anytime egregious act of unsportsmanlike conduct happens two or more times throughout the season, same team, same individual, or same activity, will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
