BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — A Broken Arrow laundromat is asking the community for help as they work with the Broken Arrow Police Department to find the man who broke into their change machine resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.
The owner of Maple Leaf Laundromat in Broken Arrow said the machine is important for everyday customers who clean their clothes.
Thankfully, the business has two machines, but the owner said that his secondary machine is broken and must be replaced.
That will cost over $3,000, not including the hundreds of dollars stolen from inside.
“We are a laundromat that is open 24 hours a day. Somebody came in the wee hours of the morning that went to our secondary change machine and took a cutter and cut around the lock and cut down the side of it and broke into the machine and stole money that was inside of it, and obviously ruined the machine,.” said Maple Leaf owner Robert Green.
Green said all of this happened a week ago and they still have yet to find the suspect.
“[I] didn’t really recognize him,” said Green. “I’m sure he has been in here, but I have cameras that run 24/7 and that’s how we were able to get the footage of what he was doing and watching him cut into it early in the morning”
Green said he didn’t realize this happened until he came into the store hours after the theft.
“I had come in early on Saturday morning and I was coming in to do some work and clean some stuff up,” said Green. “I was walking around, picking up some trash and as I’m walking over to the coin machine and noticed there was a bunch of dust on the floor and I’m like, ‘what happened?, and I looked up and noticed that it had been completely cut out and pried open.”
Green said things like this affect not just his business and profitability. but also, his thoughts on staying open 24 hours
“[It’s] frustrating that there are people out there taking advantage of things and doing things like this to destroy property and things of that nature,” said Green.
He said now he will have to get a new change machine that he will have to pay for out of pocket.
Green is asking the community if you know the man in the surveillance video, to reach out to Broken Arrow Police so other businesses don’t go through the same thing.
