TULSA, Okla. — A Promenade Mall store employee was taken into custody after a shooting inside the mall, police said.

Tulsa Police booked Keyondre Huntley on one complaint of shooting with intent to kill.

Tulsa police responded to the call near 41st Street and South Yale around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police told FOX23 News that Huntley, who works at Finish Line, shot the victim during an altercation.

An arrest and booking report shows Huntley told police that a group of people threatened him and started knocking over items in the store before hitting him in the head with a shoe.

The report added that Huntley went on to say he was scared and pulled out a handgun firing it at one of the men in the group.

Police say the victim was hit twice, once in the hip and once in the shoulder area, but he is expected to survive.

The general manager at Promenade Mall said they’ve never dealt with anything like this before.

Police say the victim and suspect “know each other from previous encounters.”

FOX23 spoke with a parent who was inside an indoor play place that was adjacent to the shooting.

She said that all of a sudden she heard screaming and saw parents holding their children.

“More people came running into the room and said there’s a shooter, there’s a shooter, take cover,” the parent, Michelle, said.

Michelle said the play area was next to a window that was hit by a bullet.

An employee inside the play area told her family to follow him.

Michelle said he directed parents and kids to a back room and closed the entrance to prevent people from getting inside.

“I noticed he closed the front metal gate thingy so no one could get in. It was terrifying, kids were screaming, mothers were crying, my kid was traumatized,” Michelle said.

She’s just grateful to everyone who stepped up to help and thankful this was between an employee and customer.

“I honestly thought there was some rampage shooter in the mall at first,” she said.
