Police say man was mauled to death by dogs in East Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — A man is dead after a dog attack in east Tulsa.

Police say a 63-year-old man was attacked near East Admiral Place and South 177th East Avenue Wednesday. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died.

The number of dogs involved is unclear. Tulsa police said the person who called 911 said they saw two pit bulls attacking the man, but EMSA reportedly noted eight dogs at the scene.

Tulsa Animal Control (TAW) took three dogs into their custody, saying they belonged to the property where the victim also lived. TAW says the woman at the home who called for help, asked to reclaim two dogs that she said didn’t start the attack.

The dog believed to have started the attack has since been euthanized and as required by law is being tested for rabies.

Because this was a “first-party bite” TAW has since released two dogs back to the owner but says they have been placed in home quarantine.

At this time this remains an open investigation with no charges filed.
