GLENPOOL, Okla. — In March, Glenpool residents will vote on Glenpool Public Schools’ $53.8 million bond proposal.
“The plan for this bond issue is to look 10 to 20 years down the road and see how we can grow as a school to match our student population,” said Curtis Layton, superintendent of Glenpool Public Schools.
Layton said the district needs more room for its’ students.
If the bond passes, they have big plans. The district would add a gym and safe room to the elementary school, create a new space for the wrestling and cheerleading teams and do renovations to the sports arena.
Their biggest project would be the high school.
“We’re doing a complete remodel of the high school and adding a new facility, new entryway,” said Layton.
Layton says the high school hasn’t had a remodel since the 80s and needs to be fixed up. They plan on building a new entryway in the space between the high school and the sports arena. This would give students easier access to the school from student parking.
The remodel would also give elevator access to the second floor of the high school, which they currently do not have.
“The new entryway will house our E-sports programs, family consumer programs, and also our speech and drama programs,” said Layton.
Layton says if passed, this bond would not raise any property taxes. He believes these projects will benefit current and future Glenpool students.
If the bond passes, the district will break ground on the entryway in September and plan to finish all of the projects in three years.
The vote is March 4.
