The group is from Michiana Rocketry but they have another name for themselves, the “Throne Thrusters.”
When asked why they picked a toilet, project coordinator Larry Kingman said simply, “I like odd rockets.”
Kingman told the Detroit Free Press a port-a-john is "not the most aerodynamic vehicle you can come up with." Even so, they got the water closet to reach for the stars just the same.
The “rocket” soared 2,000 feet into the air before parachuting to earth inches from several spectator's vehicles.
For fans of the technical side of the issue, the HarborCountryNews reports the potty weighed in at 450 pounds and flew with a center "N" motor supplemented by six "L" motors.
When asked what a small plane would have done if it was in the path of the john he smiled and said, “hopefully, turn.”
