Tulsa, Okla. — A device to read both chips and magnetic strips on cards is found on a Bank of Oklahoma ATM near 71st and Highway 75 near the Tulsa Hills shopping area.
The shimming device was found Sunday by an off-duty Oklahoma City police officer visiting the area. A "shimmer" device can read both chips and magnetic strips on cards, and some work on Bluetooth, allowing them to steam information immediately.
Bank officials are investigating. They said there is no indication at this time that anyone's information is at risk.
Tulsa police say the best way to avoid a situation like this is to use an indoor ATM. They are less likely to be compromised, according to police.
