Status of this year’s Tulsa State Fair undecided amid coronavirus pandemic

TULSA COUNTY, Okla. — Every year in the fall, the smell of corn dogs, funnel cakes and livestock fills the air in midtown during the Tulsa State Fair.

Commonly drawing more than a million people to Expo Square, the Tulsa State Fair is one of the most popular and well attended events in Tulsa.

Many large events in Tulsa have been canceled this year due to COVID-19. Though still months away, KRMG asked about the status of the 2020 Tulsa State Fair.

“We don’t really know yet.” Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith told the KRMG Morning News. “Minnesota State Fair happens before us, and then Oklahoma City, we’ll be watching closely to see what those two fairs do.”

Commissioner Keith said if the pandemic is over and social distancing rules are relaxed, the state fair will likely happen as usual.

KRMG will stay in contact with Expo Square on the status of the Tulsa State Fair.

This year’s state fair is scheduled to happen October 1 - 11.
