TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police officer Aurash Zarkeshan said in a video Thursday he’s able to walk and stand comfortably and is progressing quickly during recovery after being shot in the line of duty.
“I’ve also scored very well on many of my cognitive tests,” Zarkeshan said. “I feel very lucky to have such amazing community support.”
Sgt. Craig Johnson and Officer Aurash Zarkeshan responded to a traffic stop on June 29 when the suspect shot at both. Johnson died because of his injuries and Zarkeshan continues in his recovery.
“Thank you all for everything you’ve done for me and my family,” Zarkeshan said. “It’s been absolutely outstanding, amazing. I know that me and my parents greatly appreciate everything you’ve done for us. Thank you, Tulsa.”
A community-wide fundraiser helped raise $600,000 for the families of Johnson and Zarkeshan.
