The City of Broken Arrow is asking people what they think the next step should be for the city’s new micro-transit system known as Broken Arrow Transit, that’s been operating a pilot program during the last several months.
Right now, Broken Arrow Transit consists of just two vehicles, an electric SUV and a large passenger van that can accommodate wheelchairs.
But Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee says the service has been utilized much more than the traditional fixed-route bus service that used to serve Broken Arrow.
And she says it’s possible they could eventually expand the fleet of vehicles if demand increases and if funding is available.
The micro-transit system operates in a similar fashion as ride-sharing services like Uber of Lyft.
Broken Arrow Transit in some cases might not be able to pick up customers as quickly as private ride-sharing service, but the rates are much cheaper, just $2 for a 3-hour ticket, $1 for seniors, and free for people under the age of 18 or for military service members.
The survey asks if people would like to see a wider service area and/or longer service hours.
