Tulsa Fire Chief Michael Baker gave an update Wednesday on the ongoing situation with Covid-19 in the department.

He says 68 firefighters have been quarantined for possible exposure, with 17 of those testing positive.

He says some have experienced symptoms, but fortunately none of the symptoms have been very severe so far.

He says they’re changing up some procedures.

“Firefighters are no longer going into the station, sitting around a common table and having coffee at shift change. They’re shift-changing one at at time in the parking lot as they pass,” Chief Baker said.

He says the good news is there’s no evidence that anyone has been exposed while responding to a call in the field, which he says means their protective gear is working.
