If the idea of downloading free music from top-selling artists without spending a dime and without breaking any laws appeals to you, then dig out your Tulsa City-County Library card.

As of January 28, the library offers three free music downloads per week to all of its card-holding patrons.

Charlotte Frazier is Director of Support Services for the library system.

She tells KRMG that the downloads, through a company called Freegal, are part of a six-month pilot program.

It's a way for the library system to keep moving forward in the world of new media, she said.

"Everyone's crazy about iTunes and other ways they can download music to their mobile devices," she told us. "We're meeting the need in the 21st Century, and we think that's really exciting."

The service provides access to the Sony music library, which includes literally millions of songs.

That includes classic hits as well as modern music from artists like Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake and Carrie Underwood.

To download the free music, just visit the Tulsa Library Freegal Music page, sign in with your library card number and last name and search for the music you want to have.
