Man dies in hospital days after shooting at QuikTrip in midtown Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — The man who was shot at the QuikTrip near 11th and Sheridan in midtown Tulsa on July 1 died in the hospital on Saturday.

Police identified the man as 45-year-old Daniel Matute.

FOX23 reached out to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office who said no charges have been filed at this time against the person who shot Matute, but it’s still under investigation.


Police responded to a shooting at a QuikTrip near 11th and Sheridan in midtown Tulsa on Monday.

Police said a man was violating a protective order when he approached his estranged wife and a group she was with.

Officers said the man had a gun and someone in the group had a gun as well.

When things escalated, a person in the group shot the man who is now in the hospital.

Police said the shooter is being questioned and is cooperating.

The QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager Aisha Jefferson gave this statement to FOX23 about the incident:

“Our top priority is always the safety of our employees and customers, and we take this responsibility very seriously. We are working closely with Tulsa PD and will continue to assist with their ongoing investigation into the incident that took place Monday evening at our location near 11th and Sheridan. We will continue to take necessary and appropriate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and communities we serve.”
