UPDATE: City of Tulsa gives Riverside construction progress report

New work began on the Riverside Drive construction project last week.

The City of Tulsa updated KRMG on the latest happenings beyond the barriers that block one of the city’s busiest roads.

Reconstruction of Riverside Drive between 24th Street and 33rd Place will include the following:

● additional segments of 12-inch waterline

● additional sanitary sewer replacement

● new traffic signals at 27th Street and 31st Street

● $5 million replacement of the Crow Creek bridge

● concrete pavement with curb and gutter

● sidewalk on the east side of the road, extending to 21st Street near Veterans Park.

The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors for this nearly $15 million project. Funding has come from the Improve Our Tulsa 2014 Third Penny Sales Tax and a $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER, grant from the Federal Highway Administration.

Part of the TIGER grant will be used for the Zink Pedestrian Bridge, to be built at a later date, to coordinate with construction of the Gathering Place park.

Early in 2015, construction began on two reinforced concrete stormwater drainage boxes on the north and south sides of the Gathering Place. These structures drain into the Arkansas River. Then in July 2015 when Riverside Drive was closed to traffic, construction began on a 54-inch sanitary sewer main running parallel and on the west side of Riverside Drive. Construction also began in August 2015 on a 12-inch waterline on the east side of Riverside Drive.

In the first quarter of 2016, more road work will begin on Riverside Drive between 33rd Place and 41st Street. This project and construction on Riverside between 24th Street and 33rd Place will be under way at the same time.
