TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa’s Webster High School, which sits on historic Route 66, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Webster Middle and High School has sat on the same 20 acres since the 1938.

It was built after the Great Depression as a government recovery project. It was also one of the first schools in Tulsa to end segregation in the classroom.

The State Historic Preservation Office said the school’s art deco style architecture carried through to the stadium that was added on in 1941.

Webster was nominated because of that design, and Webster’s status as the first school in Tulsa to adopt integration in 1955.

The school will offer free tours once coronavirus precautions come to an end.
