TULSA, Okla. — At least 36 states, including Oklahoma are reporting hepatitis cases among children of unknown cause, the CDC said.
As of May 18, the CDC said 180 children are currently being investigated.
The CDC issued a health alert in April after a cluster of children were sick with hepatitis in Alabama.
Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver that can be caused by viral infections, alcohol use, toxins, medications, and certain other medical conditions. In the United States, the most common causes of viral hepatitis are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C viruses.
