TULSA, Okla. — Opening statements in the trial of a man charged in the fatal of shooting of a Tulsa police officer is set to get underway on Monday.
David Anthony Ware, 34, of Tulsa is charged with first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill in connection with a deadly shooting in June of 2020.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
“We will learn the truth about what happened on June 29, 2020 and I imagine people in this community are going to learn a few things about the police department,” said Ware defense attorney Kevin Adams.
The jury, which was seated on Thursday, is made up of nine men and three women.
“I think we have a fantastic a group of people who are attentive been watching them all week they have been paying very close attention to everything the judges have said, everything we have said. They have been engaged, so I think they are ready to hear the evidence and like Kevin said get down to the truth of what happened in June 2020,” said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Kevin Gray
Co-defendant Matthew Hall, who authorities said drove Ware from the scene after the shooting, is serving a 24-year prison sentence after being convicted on two counts of being an accessory to a felony in the case.
