Video: Pryor Police looking into arrest video circulating on social media

PRYOR, Okla. — The Pryor Creek Police Department is looking into an arrest after community members began questioning the force used. A viewer sent in the video in question, which is posted below this paragraph.

In the video, shot by a bystander, the officer can be seen pulling his gun on the suspect and asking him two times if he wants to get shot in the face.

The suspect is then taken down and handcuffed.

Chief Dennis Nichols says the incident happened Aug. 29 at 8:25 p.m. at the Okie Dokie convenience store near Graham and Elliot. Pryor Police received a call about a “drunk driver” who went through three stop signs and almost hit two cars.

Nichols says the call said the driver was hanging out the driver’s side window and did not look like he was “conscious at all”. The witness also said the SUV did not have any lights on.

Pryor Police received a second call about a “guy super drunk driving” on Elliot. This caller told dispatchers the driver was asleep at the stop light, describing the same SUV as the first caller. This person told police he “woke up” the driver who then pulled into the convenience store and parked, before falling asleep with his blinker still on.

Pryor Police then received a third call from a clerk at the convenience store, again saying the man was drunk.

Burrow was arrested on a charge called APC which stands for actual physical control of motor vehicle while being under the influence. It’s not known yet if there were drugs or alcohol involved.

FOX23 asked Nichols if the manner of the arrest was protocol.

“This is situation again that we’re looking at, you have to realize that anytime we deal with a situation like this it can turn violent at any second,” Nichols said. “The individual apparently at that point was not complying with the officer’s commands and he did pull his weapon.”

Mr. Burrow has had contact with law enforcement in the past, according to Nichols.

Nichols also says the department is “aware of the video that is on social media. The department is currently looking into the arrest and the facts surrounding the arrest.”

The officer involved has been placed on modified duty while the department continues to look into how the arrest was handled on Monday night.

The Chief says they are conducting a thorough investigation.

Police later released body camera video of the arrest.
