TULSA, Okla. — A punk and hardcore festival was held at VFW Post 577, near E. 6th St. and S. Peoria Ave., this weekend in Tulsa.

Aaron Johnson put on the festival, which was called ‘Act Like You Know Vol. 1.’

He explained what the event was about.

“So, Act Like You Know is an annual punk and hardcore festival here in Tulsa Oklahoma, featuring bands from all across the country and all benefits from the show go to Oklahomans for Equality,” he said.

Johnson also explained the reason behind aggressive style of dancing.

“It’s an aggressive style of music and that’s just kind of how people get down to it,” he said.

Johnson said the money left over from expenses and paying tour bands will be donated to Oklahomans for Equality (OKEQ).

As to why they were donating to OKEQ, Johnson had this to say:

“I think we live in a state where marginalized people are pretty mistreated and the ethos of the scene that we have, like punk and hardcore, is really rooted in acceptance and equality and I think that people who can’t stand up for themselves, or have people that try to hold them down, need people that are not part of their community to lift them up and be advocates and allies for them and so, it’s the least we can do and we hope that those funds help those people have a better life through that organization,” he said.

Johnson also suggested supporting OKEQ.

“Go to Oklahomans for Equality and support the cause that they are.”
