TULSA, Okla. — Fried chicken has arrived in the Blue Dome District!
Red Light Chicken opened in the former El Guapo’s location downtown near 1st and Elgin Tuesday. The building is in what was once labeled the “red light district” hence the name.
“Fried chicken is very popular in the food world right now,” Jim O’Connor, the chief operating officer of McNellie’s Group, said. “It was a good fit for the Blue Dome area.”
El Guapo’s had been at the location since 2007 but closed in March 2020 supposedly for renovations. Their south Tulsa location closed in the same year.
More than two years later, O’Connor says El Guapo’s won’t make a return, at least not for now. He said the three-story downtown location and extensive Mexican menu was a challenge.
“Lots of running back and forth,” O’Connor explained.
Red Light Chicken has a much smaller menu, meant to help stream line things for the staff.
They are open daily starting at 4p Monday through Thursday and 11am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
They are still hiring. You can apply here.
