According to The Associated Press and MLB.com, officials announced Sunday evening that Buck O’Neil, Bud Fowler, Minnie Minoso, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat and Tony Oliva will be enshrined in the Hall on July 24, 2022, in Cooperstown, New York.

Kaat and Oliva, both 83 and former Minnesota Twins players, are the only living members of the group selected by the Golden Days Era and Early Baseball Era committees, the AP reported. Fowler (1858-1913) has been “acknowledged as the first Black professional baseball player,” while O’Neil (1911-2006) was a Negro Leagues player who later became the first Black coach of a Major League Baseball team, the Hall said in a news release. Rounding out the list were Minoso (1925-2015), a nine-time All-Star who won three Gold Glove Awards in left field, and Hodges (1924-1972), an eight-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove Award winner.

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America also will elect new members to the Hall from their ballot, which features first-time candidates Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz, among others, according to the AP. The results of that vote will be revealed Jan. 25.
