He is now stepping away from acting because of the diagnosis.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” Hemming Willis wrote.

Willis got his start on television on the show “Moonlighting” and in films such as “Die Hard” and its sequels, and “Armageddon,” “The Fifth Element” and “The Sixth Sense.”

He also has won awards including a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards.

Willis has several projects in post-production including “Paradise City” and “Corrective Measures,” according to his IMDB page.

Earlier this month, Willis’ ex-wife, Demi Moore, with whom he is still close, shared a photo from his birthday celebration. Moore was listed along with the couple’s daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, as well as Willis’ daughters with his current wife, Mabel and Evelyn, as part of the health announcement.
