HOLLISTER, Calif. — A repaved and repainted street in a California community has frustrated some drivers because the road lines were painted on incorrectly.
“I saw it later in the afternoon on my way home from work and I thought, ‘Whoa, this is the strangest thing I’ve seen,’” Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velazquez told KSBW.
The city had redesigned and repaved Ladd Street in Hollister with the goal of adding a bike lane and central circles on the road in an effort to slow traffic and prevent drag racing, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. However, a design that called for “slightly curved” lanes was somehow translated into zigzagging curves down the length of the road.
“Basically, it just comes down to the contractor,” Velazquez told KSBW. “Somebody didn’t read the plans correctly. It was not designed to look very odd.”
The mayor told KSBW that contractors would begin work to fix the lanes Monday.
