WADDELL, Ariz. — A mother and her adult son were arrested after deputies discovered an underground bunker filled with illegal drugs, weapons and more at an RV storage facility in Waddell, Arizona.
According to a news release from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the fraud unit on Tuesday served a search warrant at the Hole in One RV, Boat & Toy Storage facility in Waddell, Arizona. The warrant was served in connection with an Arizona Public Service (APS) investigation that has been ongoing for about a year where the owners of the property were suspected of supplying their business with stolen power from a local APS junction box.
MCSO said the property owners, Laura Swink, 61, and her son, Steven Swink II, 35, were taken into custody and booked on recommended charges of theft of service charges, criminal damage and obtaining utilities fraudulently.
According to KNXV, when deputies were serving the warrant, a large underground bunker was discovered. Authorities found multiple shipping containers that were put together to look like a three-level building, which also had contained scissor-jack elevators and tunnel ladder systems.
MCSO said inside the bunker, deputies could see several chemical containers, bags of unknown powder and cylinders of compressed gas. MCSO’s Special Investigations Division detectives were called out to assist.
“MCDST detectives responded, utilized proper safety equipment, completed an assessment and determined the bunker was safe as constructed. During the assessment, illegal drugs and firearms were seen in plain view,” MCSO said.
According to KTVK, deputies said they found 36 guns, a pound of methamphetamine, an ounce of cocaine, a half-ounce of psychedelic mushrooms and 200 pill capsules.
MCSO said they also found about $240,000 worth of cash, and some gold and silver what was estimated to be worth about $700,000.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
