According to The Associated Press and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the incident occurred about noon at North Las Vegas Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration said two single-engine planes – a Piper PA-46 and a Cessna 172 – collided when the Piper was getting ready to land.

“The Piper crashed into ... a field east of Runway 30-Right, and the Cessna fell into a water retention pond,” the FAA said in a statement, according to the AP.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department said four people – two on each plane – were killed in the crash. Nobody else was on the planes, authorities said.

Authorities have not yet released the victims’ identities, the AP reported. Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will work to determine what caused the collision, according to the news agency.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
