Tulsa Drillers home opener set for Tuesday

VIDEO: Drillers home opener at ONEOK field

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Drillers are taking to the diamond for their home opener April 12 with plenty of new things to watch out for this season.

The Drillers are already off to a great start, sweeping the the Wichita Wind Surge in three games in Kansas. Those wins don’t take anything away from the home field advantage though, with the team ready to get back to downtown Tulsa and a packed ONEOK field.

“We are at 100% capacity,” Alex Kossakoski, Director of promotions for the Drillers, said. “This time last year we were still at limited capacity so its huge to have baseball back.”

In addition to just being back, Kossakoski says there are new players Tulsa will want to keep an eye out for such as starting pitcher Bobby Miller.

“He was throwing 102 mph in spring training, just electric stuff,” Kossakoski explains. “I’m sure he will be with the Dodgers sooner rather than later but you get your chance to see him up close and in person here in Tulsa first.”

That long-term deal with the Dodgers going past just the players.

“We are leaning into that Dodgers look,” he says. “Our home whites look just like the Dodger’s home whites it just says Drillers in that cursive font just like the Dodgers.”

Fans have the chance to get their hands on some of that gear for free with the first thousand fans Thursday getting jerseys and pullovers getting handed out Saturday.

The other big freebie you won’t want to miss: FIREWORKS. As an ode to 2022, the Drillers are planning on 22 fireworks shows this season, the most they have ever done, all kicking off with FOX23 Friday Night Fireworks April 15.
