TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa (TU) has built semi permanent shelters, dubbed ‘cat condos’, for the cats who live on campus.

Mona Chamberlin, a spokeswoman for TU said around 2 dozen cats have been living on the TU campus for at least 10 years.

She also said every summer TU performs upgrades across campus. Knowing about the cats who live on campus, the university decided to build 6 to 8 cat condos.

Chamberlin said she is excited because the cats now have semi permanent shelters.

She also said the condos are a good way to make sure the cats have a safe place to get out of the weather and that the condos are placed close to the area where they are currently fed and cared for.

Beyond their new condos, TU works with T-Town TNR to make sure the cats are spayed, neutered and fed. This is not only to keep the cats healthy, but to make sure they are not a problem for the campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

And the students love the cats.

Vinni Knox, who runs one of the TU cat Instagram accounts, said when she first learned about the cat condos she “freaked out.”

She said she was very happy that the cats have a place to go because of how quickly it can get hot or cold in Oklahoma.

Knox also said that students aren’t always able to see the cats and one of the better ways to keep up with the cats is check out the TU cat Instagram accounts. Knox runs the ‘tu_cats2′ account, but there is also the ‘tu_cats1′ account.
