TULSA, Okla. — The U.S. District Attorney’s Office said a federal compliant has been filed against Alexes Flanner for first degree murder. Tulsa police said Flanner shot her sister-in-law, Estrella Mendoza, to death late Thursday night.

Police said the shooting happened in the parking lot of a south Tulsa QuikTrip near 61st and Hwy 169 around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

FOX23 spoke to a local woman who lives just down the road from the crime scene.

“We’ve been living here for 12 years, and we’ve seen an increase in crime over the past couple [of] years,” Claudia, who declined to give her last name, said.

Police said there was an argument between the two before Flanner shot Mendoza in the parking lot. Flanner ran, but police said they arrested her shortly after the shooting near 51st and Yale.

“It’s always sad to know that not only one life was ruined, but the other one as well, because it’s like both families are [going to] be suffering,” Claudia added. “It’s just really sad what, not only Tulsa, but the world is coming to … this type of stuff more often.”

Flanner has been federal charged with first degree murder in the case.

Mendoza’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help support her nine children.
