TULSA, Okla. — Work started Tuesday on a new veteran’s hospital in Tulsa.

The project kicked off with demolition on the inside of the Kerr Edmondson buildings in downtown Tulsa Tuesday afternoon.

The new medical-surgical hospital will include 58 beds for veterans.

Construction on the new building is set to start in 2023 and finish in 2024.

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) introduced a bill that will help offset the additional costs due to inflation.

“115,000 veterans in northeast Oklahoma in this service area for the VA hospital,” said Dr. Johnny Stephens, president of Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.

Post Commander for VFW Post 577 Dan Fuller said it’s a big win for people in Tulsa regionally.

“Just for the families and veterans who know they will not have to travel out of state or somewhere else, the fact that they can get all their car in one building,” Fuller said. “Some veterans do not have a good support structure for transportation, but having it here, centralized in Green Country is a great thing.”

Construction is set to be completed by 2024 and available to veterans by 2025.
