SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — Authorities say a crash in Sand Springs was caused when a trailer carrying a camel came off its hitch on U.S. Highway 412.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, a Ford F150 was pulling a trailer headed eastbound on US-412, when the trailer came off its hitch, traveled across the median and hit a Land Rover Discovery head on.
According to OHP, a camel was in the trailer.
OHP said the cause of the collision was an unsecure load.
OHP said the driver of the Land Rover was taken to the hospital with body and arm injuries.
A passenger in the Land Rover was pinned for about 20 minutes before being freed by firefighters, and was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head and internal injuries.
OHP said the camel was killed in the crash.
