DEPEW, Okla. — Clothing optional: Oaklake Trails Naturist Park boasts that it the largest, family-friendly nudist resort in Oklahoma and one of the largest in the country, with its several hundred members living on more than 400 acres.

The park offers swimming, hiking, camping, Frisbee golf and almost any other outdoor activity... all things your are free to do free of clothes.

“Nudity doesn’t have to be sexual. Nudity is the body that our creator gave us and there’s not a reason to be ashamed of it and it’s unfortunate that people tie sex to that gift,” resident and chairperson at Oaklake Trails, Diana McCalment, explained.

McCalment and her husband Ray are among the 60 residents who live at Oaklake full time.

“It’s just freeing! When we have to be in the textile world, we can’t wait to come home and shed our clothes and just feel wonderful,” Rendy Garello, another resident, said.

The common feeling at this park: no judgement.

“They know they will never ever be judged because of their bodies. People here care about who you are, not how you look, and that’s a rare gift in today’s society that we treasure,” McCalment says.

That means on cooler days you may see the residents in clothes. The park is not solely about nudity, its about being free and comfortable, however that may look.

The park has about 550 club members, with a majority of them simply living there on the weekends in cabins, RV spaces or tents. Oaklake has live music monthly, Saturday dances, a full-time activities director and a pool with more 250 lounge chairs. Sticking with the theme, Bare Buns Bistro is also a staple at the park, open seven days a week starting in May.

“We do ‘Nudestock’ instead of Woodstock,” McCalment says, adding that Halloween is also big, with most costumes painted directly on people’s bodies. Surprisingly, the pandemic actually helped business at the park.

“We are naturists, we are outside, we have 400 plus beautiful acres here and people could find the community they had been cut off from in their city life by being able to be out here in the outdoors and feel safe in the space that we have,” McCalment explained. “So our membership has just continued to burgeon since the pandemic.”

McCalment says many of their newest members are in their 40s, people who can work remotely.

“I think a lot of people have the wrong idea in their mind about what this place is about and it’s nothing like what people have pictured,” resident Debra Elkins says.

In May, Oaklake Trails will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a whole week of special activities such as nude Olympics and a 5k. The park allows free one-day visits if you are curious about the lifestyle.
