ENID, Okla. — The tallest 2021 Christmas tree in the world is set to be lit on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. in, of all places, Enid, Okla.
The live cut evergreen is 144 feet tall. The Rockefeller Square Christmas tree, in New York City, stands at around 77 feet.
The Guinness Book of Work Records states the record of tallest Christmas tree ever, was established in 1950 in Seattle, Wash. The Douglas fir was over 221 feet tall.
This idea all began with a man called Kyle Williams. He was inspired to do this do this two years ago for Dec. 2021, but then the pandemic hit.
According to The One website, “[It all] began as a passion project in the hearts of an Enid, Oklahoma family. We wanted to bring the community together during the holidays, and stir up that classic, heart-warming Christmas spirit feeling.”
A tree that was marked for harvest was found on private land in California and transported all the way to Okla. At the end of the season the tree will then be donated to a local lumber mill, and the wood will then be repurposed to build houses for families in need, according to event staff.
The tree lighting event will be held in downtown Enid and will remain open until Jan. 6, 2022. Viewing the tree is completely free to the public.
Event planners encourage attendees to dress warm and be prepared to walk to the destination after you park.
