Cold snap to arrive over the weekend, snow or ice possible

Winter storm (Russell Mills)

TULSA — A weekend cold snap will serve as a reminder that winter arrived just a few days ago.

Much of the nation will be under the gun for winter weather, and in some areas possible severe weather.

In the Tulsa metro, precipitation will probably be light, but the temperatures will definitely drop, according to Meteorologist Craig Sullivan at the National Weather Service office in Tulsa.

“One thing it’s for sure going to do is turn a lot colder on Sunday, and remain cold for a few days next week,” Sullivan told KRMG late Friday afternoon.

“A little bit of light snow, or even some sleet or freezing rain could impact areas north of Tulsa,” he added, saying most of that should be up around the Kansas state line.

The KRMG Storm Center will monitor the system as it moves across the area, just in case.

However, it appears the impact on roads should be minimal, unless the system pushes further south and/or drops more precipitation than expected.
