The Tulsa Planning Commission has released drawings of signs the city plans to erect in several areas between now and the Route 66 Centennial in 2026.

The largest signs feature an inverted triangle with elements of the Tulsa City Flag incorporated.

The two top angles of the triangle are 66-degrees - a nod to the historic Mother Road which runs through town.

There will be two such signs, one on the east end of the city and one on the west end.

They will reportedly stand 42 feet in height.

Smaller welcome signs will also be placed along other highways, and even smaller ones will stand in various points of interest around the city, likely near major intersections or highway entrance/exit ramps.

The approaching Route 66 Centennial celebration, in 2026, prompted the city to seek funds for beautification and commemoration along the highway’s route through the city.

Voters approved the funds in 2016, $11 million in all, of which roughly $3.7 million will be used for the signs.
