A strange new twist today in the case of Peggy Sweeten, a Grand Lake area woman who went missing 25 years ago.
Her husband, James Sweeten, who police have long considered a person of interest in her disappearance, was found dead on Wednesday in the small town of Weslaco, Texas, where he had been living.
Police there say it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
They say he had called police earlier saying he was going to harm himself.
Authorities say they found his body in a shed near his residence.
Just this week, authorities pulled a 55-gallon barrel from Grand Lake, which they though could have Peggy Sweeten’s remains, but it was empty.
