The Tulsa market joins an exclusive club when the Green Acres Market opens its door at 8:00 a.m. this morning in Jenks.

This will be just the third store in the chain, which opened its first store in Wichita 18 years ago and then expanded to Kansas City around 6 years ago.

Store manager Angie Ramsey says they've been doing their homework on  the south Tulsa area for the past few years and says there's a strong market for organic offerings here.

"We've done our research," she said.  "Whole Foods has kind of cornered the market on that, and it's about time they got some healthy competition."

She said in addition to the usual organic offerings, they have products tailored for people with special food allergies and for vegan and vegetarian eaters.

She said they're especially proud of their deli.

"We make everything in-house, made from scratch, we don't bring anything in," she said.

She said they try to buy from local suppliers and growers wherever possible.

Green Acres is located at 117 S. 7th St. at the Village on Main in Jenks.
