The announcement of News102.3 KRMG as the Medium Market Station of the Year and Morning News host Dan Potter as the Medium Market Personality of the Year came at the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) Marconi Radio Awards.

The prestigious awards recognize radio's outstanding personalities and stations. Marconi finalists were selected by a task force of broadcasters, and the winners were voted on by the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy. The votes were tabulated by an independent firm.

KRMG called Potter while still in Atlanta Friday morning. “Wow, what a night,” he began. “This is kind of like the Oscars for radio,” Potter said, summing up the importance of the award.

“Just to be nominated and in that company is an honor.”

Potter told us he wasn’t nervous until, “right up until the last ten seconds when they were opening up the envelope.”

As the name was being called, something unusual, and funny happened. “The MC said, ‘”and congratulations Dan Porter,’” Potter chuckled.

The error was quickly corrected, and the trophy (with the appropriate spelling) was handed out.

Potter told us the award came at a very satisfying time. “This is the time of my life,” he began. “This is the best time I’ve ever had, and if we bring home a little hardware, that’s gravy.”

The NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show also featured a performance by Grammy nominated singer and BMI songwriter Gavin DeGraw. Top-rated syndicated radio personality Rickey Smiley served as the host.
