TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Fire Investigators arrested a woman in connection to a fire at a South Tulsa business.
A local business owner was arrested last week and accused of setting his store on fire with the help of an accomplice.
Fire investigators arrested Asm Ismail on a charge of 2nd-degree arson in connection to a fire that occurred at his business, Peoria Foodland, in August of 2024.
“Whoever set this fire set it in two separate places with the intention of burning the structure,” said Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department
Little said fire investigators were able to gather security video from the night of the fire over the course of the five-month investigation.
“In that footage you can see our business owner and a woman, who we are trying to identify, visiting in the store. About midnight, the business owner and employees all left and the woman stayed. Shortly after there is a fire and we have pictures and videos of her at the location leaving.”
Tulsa Fire Department received multiple tips identifying the suspect as a woman named Kesha Morgan.
TFD investigators interviewed several people and found her full name and address, where they contacted the suspect.
Fire investigators arrested Morgan and booked her into Tulsa County jail on a charge of second-degree arson.
According to an affidavit, investigators noted a slick, greasy substance on the floor near the sales counter and the storage area.
This substance was later determined to be cooking oil and the suspect can be seen pouring it on security images.
Court documents state the two fires were not a direct result of one another and were instead started in different areas.
Investigators said Ismail filed an insurance claim for the fire. Throughout the investigation, they learned he was involved in a breach of contract lawsuit with a former business partner that was filed approximately two weeks before the fire.
“What all transpired between the business owner and this individual we don’t know at this time, but we would like to find out.”
