The Nike N7 uniforms will be worn by several schools around the nation to honor Native American Heritage Month.
The men will sport the new look when they tip off the regular season Friday against Tennessee Martin. The ladies will take their turn Nov. 20 when they face SIU Edwardsville.
The Oklahoma State basketball website explains, "the color turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship in the Native American culture. Along with OSU, eight other schools are participating in the initiative to highlight Native American Heritage Month."
Nike writes, “the N7 philosophy embraces the Native philosophy: ‘"In every deliberation we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations."’ Nevada, Oklahoma State, Florida State, San Diego State, Gonzaga, New Mexico, Stanford and Haskell Indian Nations University will all wear the colors in the next few weeks.
