OWASSO, Okla. — Owasso High School’s Homecoming dance is scheduled for this weekend. However, more than half of the student body won’t be able to attend due to safety restrictions.
Principal Mark Officer says this isn’t a COVID concern. The school is following fire marshal guidelines. The district says in the past, capacity has been limited to 800 students, and tickets never sell out. Interest might be higher this year because the pandemic forced the school to cancel last year’s dance.
Officer says Owasso seniors were first in line to purchase tickets. However, many parents tell FOX23 that seniors aren’t on campus during lunch, the only time Student Council sold tickets. Many seniors attend classes at Tulsa Tech or Tulsa Community College.
Ticket sales opened to all grades on Wednesday, Sept. 22. That’s ten days before the dance.
The high school wants everyone to attend and is working to help seniors get tickets. Administrators have already bumped the number of tickets up to 1,000 and moved the dance from the West Campus gym to the Ram Café, on the East Campus.
This is a developing story.
