Owasso schools won’t require face coverings or temperature checks for upcoming school year

Morrow Elementary - Owasso Public Schools (Skyler Cooper)

As school districts develop plans for the 2020-2021 school year, decisions are being made on how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owasso Public Schools is announcing plans to return students to class in the fall, with some changes to normal operations.

The district will offer full time online classes for students. Students must choose whether to attend class in-person or online for a complete semester ahead of time. This district said students cannot switch back and forth.

School buildings will be cleaned daily and parents are asked to check their child’s health status each day.

Owasso schools will not require students or faculty members to wear face coverings, but the district said masks are encouraged.

Temperatures will not be checked on-campus.

The district is building in a ‘Pivot to Home’ day on September 4th.

“This will be a day when students will learn from home and teachers will teach from home.” Owasso Superintendent Dr. Amy Fichtner said in an online statement.

The district is prepared to make adjustment to this plan if there are significant changes to health protocols or if schools are forced to close.
