ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for New Year’s Eve. FOX23 spoke with the sheriff about plans to maintain public safety as people ring in the new year.
The sheriff’s office received a grant that will help cover the costs of having more deputies on patrol during the New Year’s Eve holiday.
FOX23 spoke with Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton on Monday.
“We have the same plan this year as we have every year, and that’s staff up as much as we can,” he said.
Sheriff Walton said there will be zero tolerance for anyone driving drunk or impaired with marijuana or anything else.
“We’ve got Uber, we’ve got friends, we’ve got all kinds of ways to get home without getting on the road impaired,” Walton said. “If somebody’s under the influence, whether that’s drugs, alcohol or anything else, and we make that stop, they’re going to jail.”
He’s directing everyone on patrol to not hand out any grace on Tuesday night.
“We’ll book in New Years Eve more people than on any other night of the year,” Walton said. “Don’t be one of those. We don’t want to be the people that end the party. We want everyone to bring the new year right and respectively and considerate of everybody else’s safety.”
Walton said with there being big events at Will Rogers Downs and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, both in Rogers County, more resources will be directed near there. However, all areas of the county will show zero tolerance.
He said you need to consider a ride share or a designated driver.
