Puppy Haven rescue in Bixby has more than a hundred dogs waiting to find forever homes, and each one of them requires food, water, time, and attention.

For a non-profit operating on donations, any loss of money or supplies hits hard.

When that loss is due to theft, it seems even more egregious.

Monday, Lauren Luiskutty of Puppy Haven says, they caught thieves on video stealing from a donation box outside their Bixby location.

‼️ Someone stole from donations from us today.💔😞 We cannot fathom why anyone would feel led to steal from a nonprofit organization, whose mission is to save dogs. 😭😭😭 We have always wanted to purchase a heavy duty, outdoor donation box with a lock, but they cost well over $3,000 to get the size we would need. This is why we haven’t seen it as a 1st priority because that money has been needed for our babies and vet bills. However, it is so unfortunate that some people feel it’s okay to take from rescues for personal gain. The outdoor donation box is feeling more pressing now. 💔 We are so grateful for everyone of you who have contributed to our pups. We care about every. single. donation. Which is why we feel this is an important matter to share. If we are able to raise enough money to purchase one, it would mean the world to us so instances like this don’t occur any more and so we could run more efficiently. We hate the idea of you putting out time and money to support our dogs, and someone else taking that for themselves. 💔 To the ones who stole - if you’re looking for Fromm Family Puppy Food, you can buy it locally at Hollywood Feed and Southern Ag 🙂

Luiskutty says they’ve wanted to get a locking donation box, but estimates the cost at $3,000 - more than the rescue can afford.

She says while the theft was relatively small, it still hurts.

“Every single donation means the world to us, I mean, even those bags of food - it matters,” she said. “We’ve got 132 dogs in the rescue and that food, every bit of it matters.”

Not only do they have to feed the animals there, they also provide food for foster animals.

“We’re very big on ‘fostering is free,’” Luiskutty said. ”We don’t want our fosters having to buy any of the supplies because they’re doing us a service by, you know, letting a dog temporarily into their home."
