The trial for the Afghan national accused of plotting a foiled terrorist attack on Election Day in Oklahoma is postponed.
According to federal court documents, the trial of Nasir Tawhedi has been pushed to April due to a continuance, which usually happens when there’s a need for more preparation or an unforeseen circumstance.
Tawhedi and his younger brother-in-law, who was a Moore Public Schools student, were arrested on October 7, after a federal investigation uncovered a plot for an Election Day terror attack.
They’re accused of planning an attack in the name of ISIS.
“As charged, the Justice Department foiled the defendant’s plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and commit a violent attack in the name of ISIS on U.S. soil on Election Day,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “We will continue to combat the ongoing threat that ISIS and its supporters pose to America’s national security, and we will identify, investigate, and prosecute the individuals who seek to terrorize the American people.”
