Tulsa shoppers have new options for getting their hands on the latest tablets and laptops, and buying them without breaking the bank.
Area Best Buy stores have recently completed renovations to their computer departments, which included the installation of a new feature, the Windows Store.
Manager Rodney Watson at the Tulsa Hills Best Buy says it's a win-win for consumers.
"It's just made it so much easier for customers to come in and put their hands on all the latest and greatest gear, and be able to play with it and get a feel for it," he told KRMG. "When you've got a new operating system like Windows 8, people want to get their hands on it. They want to be able to take it for a test drive, and it puts us in a very good position to be able to provide that."
He said the timing's good for the stores as well, with back-to-school ongoing and the holidays right around the corner.
Watson also pointed out that Best Buy has made some major changes over the last few months, including a new price-matching policy.
The electronics giant now price matches with a number of well known online retailers, which means Tulsa shoppers can both test drive the newest gear and walk out of the store with them while still getting a good deal.
It also means they don't have to wait for the gadgets to get shipped, or pay shipping costs.
The strategy's working for Best Buy, as reflected in the company's stock.
A year ago, Best Buy shares traded for about $11.20, but with the recent changes and a new emphasis on affordability, the price has climbed steadily and as of Monday, Sept. 9 was trading at more than $37.00 a share.
