Tulsa Public Schools administrators locked down a Tulsa elementary school late Thursday morning after a man in a minivan reportedly waved a gun at children on the playground.
TPS spokesman Chris Payne tells KRMG it happened about 11:45 a.m. at Owen Elementary School 1132 N. Vandalia Avenue.
School district police and the Tulsa Police Department responded to the area, but did not find the suspect vehicle described as green or gray in color.
Payne confirms no shots were fired and no one was injured.
The school was taken off lockdown status roughly an hour after the incident.
Payne did not know if any adults witnessed the incident, or if it was reported by students at the school.
He says it's the district's policy not to take any chances.
"It is standard procedure, and many times we'll have activity that goes on in a neighborhood that a school is in and it may not even be happening on the property, but if it's something that's a concern, then we will put the school into lockdown. It's just all about keeping students safe."
