The boys in blue are burning up.
The Tulsa Police Department is temporarily allowing their officers to wear a cooler uniform.
Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham says they can now wear a blue, football-type jersey and khaki pants during this heat wave.
He says this is the same uniform worn by some of their special units.
Willingham says their normal uniform is dark blue and made of wool and does not breathe very well.
He says it’s even worse when you add a bullet-proof vest and the other gear officers have to wear.
Willingham says “It’s just going to allow our officers to be a little safer and allow them to be more effective in doing their job and hopefully we can get this heat to go away.”
