University of Tulsa buys historic mansion for new president

The University of Tulsa new president will have a new place to call home.

The university bought the historic William H. Skelly House in Maple Ridge.

President Geoffrey Orsak and his family will live on the second floor of the home and the first floor will be used for events tied to the university.

The home is located near 21st and South Madison and was built by William G. Skelly in 1923-1924.

When Mr. Skelly died, Gertrude Skelly, gave the home to TU in 1957 and the school sold the home in 1959.

The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and visitors have included President Coolidge, President Hoover, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart and Wiley Post, Bob Hope and Will Rogers.

Former TU President Steadman Upham lived in a home near the Philbrook Museum and we are still waiting to hear what the university plans to do with that piece of property.
